Our 2015 CHILD at Heart Luncheon, "Dare to Dream" drew a crowd of nearly 240 people, and a large number were newcomers to this event. We had much to celebrate: our new home, our founder recognized by Seattle Met Magazine with a Lifetime Achievement award, the support of new community partners, and most important of all, the successes of our students.
The Renton Pavilion provided an intimate and gracious space for celebrating. After being greeted by volunteers from our new community partner, Starbucks, and receiving their programs, compliments of Alliance Printers, guests mingled with one another among student artworks; most exciting were the Gobots that students created from squishy circuitry they made themselves.
Guests heard from Scott Marelli a CHILD alumnus parent who shared what he and his family learned about learning differences and gauging success in new ways. Most poignant was not just what he shared about his son’s progress after leaving CHILD, but also the way that his son and his brother learned to honor their uniqueness as well as their similarities.
Many were moved by the personal stories the parents of two current students shared via video; they revealed how despair and depression were being steadily replaced with feelings of worth and newfound aspirations for challenging careers.
Sixty-five thousand dollars in contributions were received following the appeal that day and four new families were inducted into the CHILD at Heart Society, reflecting a commitment to donate $1,000 or more per year for five consecutive years.
