CHILD Kicks Off School and Clinic Services and Announces First Training for 2014-2015 at Our New Home

Mid-October, students and staff gathered for a short assembly to bid farewell to CHILD’s 21-year home on Mercer Island. Some great memories were shared along with hopes for new beginnings. It was bittersweet leaving a familiar place; however that feeling was replaced quickly when students and staff saw our new home. To quote a few, “Awesome!” “Wow!” “Best building I have ever seen!” ”I have never been in such a nice school!” Twenty-five families attended the orientation preview on Sunday, October 19th, before school and clinic services resumed the following day.

Our new classrooms and therapy spaces are spacious and full of light and there are areas for exploring natural habitat in the wooded areas on the campus. Students are enjoying our new playground and settling in to their new routines. It just feels good to be here!

In collaboration with a former training partner, Denver, Colorado’s Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation (SPDF), CHILD will be hosting the first 2014-2015 training  workshop on Saturday, November 15th. The workshop will be introducing pediatric occupational therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, teachers and other professionals to Goal-Oriented Assessment of Lifeskills (GOAL), an innovative new evaluation of functional motor abilities needed for daily living for children ages 7 to 17.
